Just like Phuket in Thailand where cruises are popular and offered by companies such as Five Star Sea Cruises, the Bahamas is also starting to invest in its cruise ship industry. In an announcement made by the company Carnival Cruise Line, they revealed that they have signed a deal worth multimillion in dollars which will start a project for a cruise port in Bahamas. The port is going to be constructed in Freeport.
As of the moment, the port’s name is yet undecided by the company but one thing is for sure, it will be the biggest cruise facility in the region that is built for a purpose. This is according to the cruise line based in Doral. The new port will show off a number of features such as a beach that will stretch up to a mile and there will be activities for recreation and majority of them are going to be water-based. There will also be shopping outlets, food as well as beverage.
The new port will of course have a pier which is going to be at the eastern side of the island of Grand Bahama. According to the cruise line, the pier will be able to accommodate two of the largest ships at the Carnival at the same time. The same ships will be able to hosts over 1 million guests every year. Freeport is known as the second largest city in the country of Bahamas. It is located at the most northern part of the country and is only 110 miles from the city of Miami on the northeast side.
There are already a number of ships that have been sent by the Carnival Corporation, the parent company. They have set sail to Freeport located in the Lucayan Harbour which is in the western part of the Grand Bahama. They have also sailed to the capital of Bahamas, Nassau, as well as different private islands – Princess Cays and Half Moon Cay – that was also developed by the company. The company was able to bring about 3 million tourists to Bahamas for the first few months of 2017 alone. According to Perry H. Christie, they considered it a great benefit to the economy much like Thailand appreciates companies such as Five Star Sea Cruises as they bring tourists to the country.
